Student Engagement
We鈥檙e proud of the diversity of experiences that our students bring to Occidental. Here are a few of the unique experiences of members of our newest class:
- Our students are entrepreneurs and teachers: from starting their own business hanging Christmas lights, to being an innovative culinary instructor, to teaching children basic arithmetic through using a Japanese abacus
- Our students are civically engaged: serving on your local Youth Advisory Commission holding police accountable, or have created a multilingual magazine about social issues, or combined their work in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion to win a beauty pageant that celebrates Puerto Rican identity
- Our students are artists: they are "TikTok famous" with tens of thousands of followers, or have been featured in Rolling Stone magazine, and have won multiple journalism awards, or have managed other artists while recording their own music
- Many of them have been change-makers at their high schools: creating, revitalizing, and leading clubs related to identity, inclusion, and activism
- Many of them are athletes who have broken high school, county, and state records -- with ambitions to do the same here as an Occidental Tiger
