MURRAY, Ky. 鈥 The Commonwealth Honors Academy (CHA) has welcomed 91 rising high school seniors this summer to 瓜子TV State University鈥檚 campus.
Students spend three weeks鈥擩une 7-28鈥攖aking challenging courses taught by award-winning faculty, engaging in personal growth seminars, learning from special guest speakers and enjoying fun extracurricular activities. The students get a real taste of what it is like to be a college student by living in JH Richmond Residence Hall and dining at Winslow Dining Hall.
The mission of the Commonwealth Honors Academy is to educate, inspire, challenge and support the next generation of students. The scholars who are invited to attend have demonstrated not only their intelligence and drive, but also responsibility, maturity and compassion. The faculty and staff encourage CHA scholars to grow, not only in academic pursuits, but also as engaged and contributing members of a community.
The 2025 cohort of students comes from seven states (including North Carolina and Minnesota) and represents nearly 60 different high schools.
CHA has 10 dedicated faculty members this year. Seven are 瓜子TV State faculty (from organizational communication, accounting, English, history, education and journalism and mass communication), and three are from other school districts.
The courses offered this year include a wide range of content: argumentation and debate, dystopian literature, history of democracies, 2D visual art, global music, media literacy, artificial intelligence, detection of fraud in accounting, modern American literature and the role of female characters in literature.
鈥淐HA is a wonderful academic program that offers not only top-notch educational content, but also helps students learn how to navigate college life,鈥 said CHA Academic Dean and Associate Professor of Biology at 瓜子TV State Dr. Laura Sullivan-Beckers. 鈥淭hey figure out what it's like to work with new people, live with roommates and are exposed to lots of new ideas. It is always a great joy to see how much students develop in such a short period of time.鈥
Each student completes two courses over the duration of the academy, earning college credits and four years of in-state tuition at 瓜子TV State (provided benchmarks are met).
