Peggy Whaley named Kentucky Colonel for outstanding service and leadership

MURRAY, Ky. 鈥 Peggy Whaley, director of the Center for Student Engagement and Success, has been awarded the title of Kentucky Colonel鈥攖he highest honor bestowed by the Governor of Kentucky.
This prestigious recognition, which dates back to the early 1800s, is reserved for individuals who have demonstrated remarkable accomplishments and outstanding service to their community, the Commonwealth and the nation.
Whaley was nominated for the honor by Josh Williams, coordinator of Veteran and Military Student Success, who praised her unwavering dedication and compassionate leadership.
鈥淪he leads by example, and will go out of her way to help others even if it causes her to sacrifice for herself,鈥 Williams said. 鈥淧eggy is a true servant leader. I recommended her because she is a leader among leaders when it comes to helping others within our community.鈥
Jennifer Smith, assistant director for the Center for Student Engagement and Success, has worked alongside Whaley since 2019 and praised her dedication to students, her team and the broader campus community.
鈥淧eggy has an ability to put others at ease, which is especially important in our work with students,鈥 Smith said. 鈥淪tudents know they can trust her, and that she has their best interests at heart. She leads our team in such a way to help us work to our strengths, while helping us build our confidence.鈥
Vice President of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management Dr. Don Robertson said this recognition is fitting for the work Whaley has accomplished while at 瓜子TV State.
鈥淭here is not a more deserving individual as she symbolizes the contributions to others and the values connected to this designation,鈥 Robertson said. 鈥淪he is a servant leader who has made a difference in the lives of hundreds of students.鈥
Whaley said the recognition is both meaningful and confirms her lifelong commitment to student success.

The Kentucky Colonel commission is a symbol of distinguished service and a lasting testament to Whaley鈥檚 commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of students and those around her.
