Art & Design Scholarships
In addition to the many Academic Scholarships available at ¹Ï×ÓTV State, there are a variety of competitive, talent-based scholarships specifically for new and continuing students majoring in Art & Design. Over half of all Art & Design students receive some form of scholarship.
Incoming Freshmen and Transfer Students
- ¹Ï×ÓTV for admission to ¹Ï×ÓTV State University.
- ¹Ï×ÓTV for scholarships by February 2, 2026.
- Submit a portfolio by February 9, 2026.
- Your portfolio is a collection of your art works. The department's Scholarship Committee will use your portfolio to evaluate your talent and potential. Your portfolio may include a variety of media: any combination of drawing, painting, photo, mixed media, ceramics, graphic design, printmaking, sculpture, video, etc. Include 10 examples of your best works.
- The work you choose should demonstrate your artistic ability, creativity, imagination, and originality. Include at least two drawings from direct observation. Original works, conceived and designed by you, will reflect better on your portfolio than work copied from a published photograph or existing artwork.
- Photograph your work carefully. If you don't have access to a lighting studio, take your images in a room with diffuse light. Place your artwork against a gray or neutral background, such as a piece of cloth or mat board. Individual shots should be taken of each piece. The images must be 1000 to 2000 pixels on their longest side, or 1-2 MB each.
- Create a presentation with your portfolio images using Google Slides, Powerpoint, or a similar application. Title the presentation as your name, and caption the images with the work titles, media, dimensions and date completed.
- Your artwork will be best represented if you use a neutral background, keep your captions discreet, and scale your images to fill the screen as much as possible. If you wish to provide an explanation of any of the work, include it as the final slide of your presentation.
- If you’re including video work, share it through Google Drive, Vimeo or YouTube and include the link to it in your presentation.
- Save your presentation as a PDF and email it to msu.scholarshipportfolios@murraystate.edu by February 9. Check the functionality of any links in your PDF before submitting.
- If you’re including motion graphics or short animations (gif, svg, etc.) you’ll need to share your portfolio as a Google Slides presentation to the above address rather than emailing it as a PDF.
- If you are otherwise unable to email your portfolio, you may share it as a Google Slides presentation to the above address.
- Questions about portfolios and the review process can be directed to msu.scholarshipportfolios@murraystate.edu.
- Questions about the online scholarship application should be directed to the Scholarship Office.
