Biography

Dr. Ulf Oesterle is a music industry educator, marketer, and entrepreneur with more than two decades of experience spanning higher education and the music business. He holds a Ph.D. in Mass Communication from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University, where his research examined how independent record labels influence the creative process and product. Over his 15 years on the Syracuse University faculty, Dr. Oesterle taught courses across media management, social media, and the music and entertainment industries, serving as Department Chair and Interim Director of the Bandier Program. He has presented at national conferences including SXSW, NAMM, and MEIEA, and his work has been published in Billboard and the MEIEA Journal.

Currently, Dr. Oesterle is the Director of Marketing for After Dark Presents, overseeing campaigns for nearly 300 live events annually across upstate New York. He is also the founder of Aux Records, an independent label that has released more than 20 projects and helped launch nationally touring artists. Beyond academia and industry, Oesterle is a successful TikTok creator with 350 million views of his original content, and an elite paratriathlete, Ironman World Championship qualifier, and multi-time national champion in para-duathlon.
